Rep. Ann M. Williams Passes CEJA through the Energy and Environment Committee

As many of you know, I am the Chief Sponsor in the House of the Clean Energy Jobs Act, House Bill 804. Commonly referred to as CEJA, this bill provides a comprehensive, equitable and community-driven plan to put Illinois on a path to 100% renewable energy by 2050. While my colleagues and I work to ensure safe, dependable energy for you and our neighbors, I wanted to provide an update on our most recent achievement in the General Assembly.

On Monday, March 15th, the Clean Energy Jobs Act passed through the Energy & Environment Committee with an 18-11 vote. During the Committee Hearing, we heard from both experts and proponents who reiterated our most critical message: CEJA can’t wait. Despite tough questioning from Committee members on both sides of the aisle, witnesses testified on their certainty that CEJA is the path forward to achieving environmental security, justice and equity in Illinois.

In addition to experts and colleagues speaking in Committee, 1,500 Illinoisans submitted Witness Slips in support of the Clean Energy Jobs Act. This only proves what we already knew: CEJA is the most people-powered energy legislation ever introduced in Illinois.

The Clean Energy Jobs Act will move to the House Floor where conversations will continue. As Chief Sponsor, I will not stop fighting for you and our community in ensuring clean energy for all.

Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have questions about CEJA or the legislative process. My staff and I are here to assist.
