Rep. Ann Williams talks about the COViD Act on ABC 7

On Tuesday, November 9th, 2021, I spoke with Chuck Goudie on ABC 7 to discuss my Community Oversight of Vaccination Deception (COViD) Act that I introduced in the 2021 General Assembly Veto session.

Highlights from our interview centered on explaining how the COViD Act is modeled after the Texas abortion law, but is intended to actually protect community health.

“I dont like the Texas law, but the idea there was to hold people accountable who assisted in abortions. That didn’t make any sense to me because whether someone has an abortion doesn’t impact public health at large, but this [fake vaccination cards] did.”

I wanted to use the same approach as the Texas law, because if someone fakes a vaccine card, they jeopardize the health of all of those around them. This will allow people to file a civil action against those people. If the bill passes, Illinoisans who file a civil action are eligible for $10,000 in damages.

“I think we all need to hold the community at large accountable for not only encouraging vaccinations but also that people aren’t lying to each other about their vaccination status.”

Thank you to Chuck Goudie for hosting me as his guest. You can watch my full interview HERE.
