State Representative Ann Williams (D-Chicago) announced she is launching a new program, called Activate Illinois, aimed helping people identify ways take direct action on legislative issues.

“Over the past several months, I have heard from so many people looking to get more engaged in the legislative process on the state level. I have been inspired by their energy and desire to impact the community in a positive way.” Williams said.

Activate Illinois will be a clearinghouse for action alerts that will help constituents make their voices are heard in the legislative process. These action alerts will be regularly posted on Williams’ social media pages: facebook.com/repannwilliams and twitter.com/repannwilliams.

Williams will start by sharing information on priority legislation identified by a range of organizations working daily to protect the values and priorities of her community, selected on the basis of the issues her office has been hearing most about. The current organization list includes: ACLU Illinois, Planned Parenthood Illinois Action, Illinois Council on Handgun Violence, Raise Your Hand Illinois, Equality Illinois, Illinois Environmental Council.

Once the alerts are posted, followers will be encouraged to share with friends using #ActivateIL.

Williams stated, “With so much at stake on both the federal and state levels, it is my hope this will be a tool we can use together to further Activate Illinois.”
