Rep. Ann Williams Appointed to Reproductive Health and Dobbs Decision Working Group

I am excited to announce I have been appointed to the “Reproductive Health and Dobbs Decision Working Group” for the Illinois House of Representatives.

As the right to safe and legal abortion remains under attack throughout the country, Illinois stands as an island to ensure that these services remain available and accessible to all who need them.

We saw this coming – and we worked for years to ensure Illinoisans would continue to have access to safe and legal abortion even after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

But our work is far from over. As access to reproductive healthcare is stripped away in state after state, Illinois must be prepared to meet the demand for increased access. We are already seeing women cross the border in rising numbers from other states seeking services, as anti-choice states create more and more barriers in an effort to control our bodies and our lives. In light of this changing landscape, even issues of data privacy become more compelling.

As a woman and as your state representative, I stand ready to work with my colleagues to further strengthen Illinois’ commitment to protecting and increasing access to a full array of reproductive healthcare services.

Several additional working groups have been created in the House to address other pressing issues impacting our communities, including Firearm Safety and Reform, Mental Health, and Public Safety.

I thank Speaker Welch for my appointment to this critical working group. I look forward to providing you with updates on our work as well as that of the other groups in the coming weeks and months.
